Tales

Finding the time to narrate a tale to our children is not only a beautiful pastime, but also very beneficial for them.

I love to narrate, make up and translate tales. From this website I would like to share them with other parents and teachers who, like me, are aware of how important these tales are.

Below I have uploaded some tales in English (in the tabs "euskera" and "cuentos trilingües" you will find them in Basque and Spanish).

Through the blog I would love if you shared your tales so we could create a useful "library" for our children and/or pupils.

The very hungry caterpillar @ Eric Carle

One of the greatest childhood classics in English. Through an apparently simple story, the children follow a caterpillar from the time it is a tiny egg and hatches, before pupating and turning into a butterfly. They also learn to count, the days of the week, a butterfly’s life cycle, the importance of good nutrition and much more. Age: 3-6 years old.

Eric Carle has many other beautiful tales. To get more information about them, visit his web page:

The tiger who came to tea @ Judith Kerr

First published in 1968, it is one of the most popular children's stories in the United Kingdom. The secret of such a long success is the charming and surreal naturalness and lack of concern shown by the girl and her mother when they allow a tiger to have tea with them in their kitchen. The children can imagine themselves in a similar situation, with the extraordinary possibility that a tiger may ring their bell too. Is there a more original way of spending an afternoon at home?

The Gruffalo @ Julia Donaldson / Axel Scheffler

First published in 1999, it is nowadays an extremely famous children's story in the United Kingdom. The book has sold over 10.5 million copies, has won several prizes for children's literature, and has been developed into plays on both the West End and Broadway. The Gruffalo tells the story of a clever mouse, three large animals that want to eat him and an imaginary monster, a Gruffalo, who turns out to be only too real.

Age: 3-7 years old.
